Ways I Saved Money This Week:

-We saved around $60.00 on my son’s birthday present.  He has become very interested in football and enjoys playing video games so we thought a new football Wii game would be a great gift.  We went to Game Stop not realizing that most of the games sold there were used.  They only had used football games so we had to decide to get one for $5.00 or try and find a new one at another store.  We went ahead and grabbed the used one, I put it in a clear c.d. case we had at home and wrapped it up.  My son didn’t care or even notice that it wasn’t brand new, he was just excited to get a new Wii game.

-I wanted to buy a tub of frosting for my son’s cake but decided to make it instead.  I had a tub of organic palm shortening that I had found on sale at Target a while back and half a bag of powdered sugar in the pantry.  It took me less than five minutes to throw together.  The tub of shortening expires in 5 months so using it instead of buying frosting will help me to get it used up before then so that it won’t go to waste.

-This one is actually from last week and I forgot about it.  I was going to either buy a new Mom’s chore planner or the app for one that I already have.  I decided to just reuse the one that I already had.  The dates on it are wrong because I bought it five years ago but it also has everything listed under the days of the week.  I was able to save $7.99 by reusing something I already own.  That’s almost half of my weekly savings goal!

-Meal planning.  Just like last week, I really think planning my menu every week before going shopping is going to be the number one money saver around here.  I can plan for cheaper and healthier meals by knowing exactly what to buy before heading to the store.
