What is To The Bank Tuesday? It’s weekly encouragement and ideas to help you save money in easy ways. Encouragement to be frugal not miserly. No one likes a miser!
How I Saved Money This Week
-I made my own laundry detergent, all purpose cleaning spray and foaming hand soap. I’ve been making these things around my house for about 7 years or so. Making your own cleaning products will save you a ton of money! My laundry detergent costs me less than a $1.00 to make. My all purpose cleaning spray only costs about .25¢ a bottle and homemade foaming hand soap, I’m going to estimate at maybe 10¢ a bottle but probably even less. The laundry detergent can be made in less than five minutes and the spray and hand soap in less than a minute! I’m still experimenting and trying to find the perfect homemade automatic dishwashing powder but so far no such luck. Do you have one?
-I use rags made out of old t-shirts to clean with instead of using paper towels. You can save lots of money by not using paper towels.
-Last year we were crazy busy and it seemed like we lived in our van rather than at home. Being so busy caused me to buy more convenient foods which are also more expensive. We are trying to stay home more in 2016 and being at home has had a huge impact on our budget. I’m able to cook healthier and CHEAPER meals since we aren’t always running from one event or activity to another.
-I attempted to do a month long book fast for February. I ended up finding a Christmas book for the boys on clearance at Half Price Books for .90¢! I couldn’t resist. It was an old Appalachian tale of the tradition of putting angles on the top of Christmas trees. There is also a cook book I’ve been eyeballing but I’m trying to stay strong and not order it. I don’t really *need* another cookbook.
